John Veitch

Owner

My name is John Veitch, and together with my wife Anita, we are very excited to be the owners of the Invercargill NumberWorks’nWords. We’re passionate about helping Southland children grow in confidence, unlock their potential, and achieve real, lasting success in Maths and English through our expert, results-driven tuition.

Anita and I have been teachers for over 30 years and have held a variety of positions in different schools in New Zealand and internationally. I have spent many years teaching Mathematics and have had the privilege of serving as the Principal of two schools, while Anita brings deep expertise in Literacy Support, helping students build strong foundations in reading and writing.

We are excited to support our talented tutors to deliver high-quality learning experiences that truly make a difference for families. As proud Highlanders, Anita and I were both born and raised in Dunedin with family ties to Invercargill, We’re committed to becoming a trusted part of the local community and helping every child we work with succeed.

Frequently asked questions

What are the lesson times?

Our centre run one-hour tutoring sessions after school, Monday to Friday, usually starting from 4:00pm. We aim to be as flexible as possible to fit around your child’s other activities. Just let us know what works best for you!

What ages do you teach?

We work with students aged 5 to 16, covering all levels of ability; from early learners to those preparing for exams or needing extension work (more of challenge).

What subjects do you teach?

At NumberWorks'nWords we specialise in both maths and English.

What happens if my child is sick and can't make it?

Let us know as soon as possible. We’ll cancel your child’s tutoring session for that day and schedule a make-up session during the same term.


Which schools in the area do you have students attending from?

We service all Invercargill primary and secondary schools and surrounding area rural schools in Southland.

Does the centre have any parking?

We ask that you observe road and child safety protocols when dropping and picking up children. We advise parking just around the corner in Yarrow Street and your child can safely walk around the corner to our building. Alternatively, park across the road and walk your child across. If it is a quick drop off/pick up try the carpark of Bayley's Real Estate (previously Westpac).

What amenities, shops or services are located near your centre? (e.g., supermarket cafe, gym etc)

We are in the CBD so we are handy to all conveniences - cafes, gyms and retail shops.

What’s the best way to find your centre?

Between Eagles& Eagles law on the corner, and the Optometrist and Dentist on the other side. Opposite the Laundromat on the corner of Kelvin and Yarrow Streets, and the Public Trust Building.
