Shannon Halley

Manager

Kia ora and welcome to NumberWorks’nWords Hamilton Central. I’m Shannon, and I’ve been part of this centre since 2012. With over a decade of experience working with children, I’m still just as passionate about supporting young learners.

What I love most about NumberWorks’nWords is that every child is treated as an individual. We take the time to understand how each student learns and tailor their programme to suit them, so they feel supported, challenged, and proud of their progress.

I also really value connecting with families, so please feel free to come and chat with me about your child’s learning. I’m lucky to work alongside Sophie, Kiara, and our wonderful team of tutors, and together we aim to make a positive difference in your child’s life.

Sophie

2IC

Hi, I’m Sophie! I’ve been part of the NumberWorks’nWords team for four years, working with students in maths and English from primary school through to NCEA level.

I help develop personalised learning goals for each student, because every learner is different. I love seeing those “lightbulb moments” when a tricky concept suddenly clicks and confidence grows.

I believe learning should be engaging, supportive, and fun. If you have any questions about your child’s learning, please feel free to come and chat.

Brittany Yeo

Owner

Kia ora and welcome to NumberWorks’nWords! I am the owner of this centre and have been a part of NumberWorks’nWords since I was a teenager! When I was 13 years old, Dad opened the Palmerston North Centre and I was the first student on the books! The support and teaching I received from my tutors over the years has shaped me to this day. My background is in Primary Teaching and Counselling. I completed my Bachelor of Education at Massey University in 2007 and my Master of Counselling at the University of Waikato in 2020.

I have been involved in running NumberWorks’nWords centres for over 15 years. While I am not at the Hamilton Centre centre day to day, I work closely with Shannon in a supportive role as the owner. I love how our programme allows us to work with each student in the way that best supports their individual learning needs. It is important to me that your child’s learning experience here supports them to reach their full potential. Our shared aim is to make a positive difference in your child’s life.

Frequently asked questions

What are the lesson times?

Our centres run one-hour tutoring sessions after school, Monday to Friday, usually starting from 3:30pm. We aim to be as flexible as possible to fit around your child’s other activities. Just let us know what works best for you!

What ages do you teach?

We work with students aged 5 to 16, covering all levels of ability; from early learners to those preparing for exams or needing extension work (more of challenge).

What subjects do you teach?

At NumberWorks'nWords we specialise in both maths and English.

What happens if my child is sick and can't make it?

Let us know as soon as possible. We’ll cancel your child’s tutoring session for that day and schedule a make-up session during the same term.
