Aly Barrass

Owner

Although I was born in Sydney, I have lived in different parts of Australia, travelling and working in many different places. My initial teaching degree was in Early Childhood Education, then followed a Masters Degree in Junior Primary and Primary Education as well as a Graduate Diploma in Special Education. I have continued to love learning in education but also achieving a Floristry Diploma and a Bachelor of Visual Art just for fun. My husband, John and I, have 5 wonderful children and 5 delightful grandchildren (so far), and we are the proud owners of NumberWorks'nWords Indooroopilly.

Having taught over many years as an Early Childhood and Primary Teacher, I decided to change careers and became the Manager of NumberWorks'nWords Ashgrove where I have had the pleasure of working with families and children, to achieve amazing results in Maths and English. Having watched students develop confidence and deeper understanding of their own learning through the process that NumberWorks'nWords provides, I wanted to support even more students to feel more positive about their education and I now have the privilege of working with the wonderful families that join us at our Indooroopilly centre. With a strong skilled team of tutors, we are here to assist your child to achieve further educational milestones while building their confidence in a supportive and fun environment.

Frequently asked questions

What are the lesson times?

Our centre runs tutoring sessions after school, Monday to Friday, starting from 3:30pm. We are also open on Saturday mornings from 9:00 am. We aim to be as flexible as possible to fit around your child’s other activities. Just let us know what works best for you!

What ages do you teach?

We work with students aged 5 to 16 years, covering all levels of knowledge and ability; from early learners, to those preparing for exams and assignments through a range of Maths or English understanding to those needing extension work. Every student's needs are different and we individualise their program for what they need for success.

What subjects do you teach?

At NumberWorks'nWords we specialise in both Maths and English. We explicitly teach strategies and content for your child to apply to their foundation knowledge and skills no matter which level they are working at.

What happens if my child is sick and can't make it?

Let us know as soon as possible. We’ll cancel your child’s tutoring session for that day and schedule a make-up session during the same term.

Which schools in the area do you have students attending from?

We have students from St Peters Lutheran, Indooroopilly HS, Brigidine College, Chelmer PS, Graceville PS, Ambrose Tracey, Mt St Michaels, Centenary HS, Chapel Hill SS, Kenmore SS, Christ the King, but we welcome students from all schools.

Does the centre have any parking?

Yes, we have some parking at the front of the building and extra spaces underneath the building too.

Are there amenities or shops close to your location?

Nearby amenities include Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, a variety of shops along Coonan Street, and a McDonald’s café.

What’s the best way to find your centre?

Our centre is located on Coonan Street Indooroopilly right next to Dulux Paints and the McDonald’s Cafe. We are upstairs from the Endodontic Group.
