Meet the team

Catherine Cardy

Owner

Catherine, Rebecca and Marco manage Hitchin NumberWorks'nWords (pictured here with their Hitchin Town Business Award, Employer of the Year 2025).

Catherine is the Owner having managed the Centre for over three years. Catherine brings a wealth of experience with her having worked as an Assistant Headteacher in Hackney for years and also been a lead Phonics consultant in primary, secondary and special education. Catherine lives locally and her own children have been educated in Hitchin primary and secondary schools.

Rebecca is the Assistant Manager and joined Catherine over a year ago. Rebecca is a primary school teacher who most recently worked in Welwyn Garden City. Rebecca has an extensive knowledge of the primary curriculum and is passionate about every child reaching their potential

Marco has been part of the Hitchin branch since September 2024. Marco is the English Manager and primarily leads GCSE English tuition. As a recent creative writing graduate, Marco brings a passion for English: reading and writing. Marco has an in-depth knowledge of KS3 and KS4 and an absolute clarity in how to support students to prepare for their GCSEs.

Frequently asked questions

What are the lesson times?

Our centres run one-hour tutoring sessions after school, Monday to Friday, usually starting from 3:30pm. We aim to be as flexible as possible to fit around your child’s other activities. Just let us know what works best for you!

What ages do you teach?

We work with students aged 5 to 16, covering all levels of ability; from early learners to those preparing for exams or needing extension work (more of challenge).

What subjects do you teach?

At NumberWorks'nWords we specialise in both maths and English.

What happens if my child is sick and can't make it?

Let us know as soon as possible. We’ll cancel your child’s tutoring session for that day and schedule a make-up session during the same term.

Which schools in the area do you have students attending from?

Hitchin Girls, Hitchin Boys, The Priory, all local Hitchin Primary Schools, Kingshott School and numerous other schools from the neighbouring towns and villages.

Does the centre have any parking?

You can drop off and pick up outside the centre (on Bancroft) but do check parking restrictions. For longer term parking, go to Sainsbury's or nearby pay and display car parks.

Are there amenities or shops close to your location?

Sainsburys is across the road, and there are multiple coffee shops and other shops are nearby.

What’s the best way to find your centre?

Go straight through the red door and up the stairs where a member of staff will be waiting to greet you.
