Individual tuition programmes

Our curriculum-linked programmes are designed by experts to deliver the results your child needs (catch-up, extension or exam prep), while also building confidence and increasing love of learning. We teach children aged 5 to 16 and regular reports show how your child is improving. Every student has an individualised programme and works towards agreed personal goals. Results are celebrated.

Maths tutoring

Effective and engaging maths tuition will ensure your child has the numeracy knowledge and thinking skills required for improved maths performance. We help children who struggle with maths, as well as those who are gifted.

English tutoring

Whether your child is a reluctant reader and writer or an aspiring novelist, we can prescribe a needs-based English tuition programme. Our tutoring complements schoolwork and follows the New Zealand curriculum.

Meet the Owner: Raewyn Hansen

Raewyn Invercargill

Hi, I’m Raewyn Hansen - the proud owner/manager of the world’s southernmost NumberWorks’nWords centre! We established the centre in the heart of Invercargill’s CBD in 2007, after teaching mainly in primary schools, for 30+ years.

Establishing meaningful, reciprocal relationships with parents and their children is at the heart of what we do. Our fabulous young tutors not only excel in their subject speciality, but are also open, friendly, and know how to make each child succeed and feel good about learning. We pride ourselves on knowing every child, finding out what makes them tick, and designing a specific, individualised program for each child, whether they need a confidence boost, to catch up, or for extension. We would love to chat with you soon.

My son was lacking confidence in his maths ability but after attending NumberWorks'nWords, even after the first week, he has gained confidence in his maths ability and loves attending the lessons each week.

— C. Sharon

My daughter is homeschooled with certain learning requirements. We really wanted a way to accurately gauge her progress and fill in any gaps. This has turned out to be what I was seeking as a parent, and my daughter absolutely loves it!

— M. Stacey

NumberWorks'nWords has been instrumental in our daughter's maths capabilities. She has come forward in leaps and bounds over the past 15 months. Andrew works with what she is doing in her school math class each term to reinforce her learning. We could not be happier and would recommend highly.

— N. Fair

My child was struggling with mathematics. Since going to NumberWorks'nWords I have seen my child’s confidence grow and she is now able to attempt the hard maths problems whereas before she wouldn’t even try. She still has a wee way to go but with the excellent tutors, I am confident that my child’s ability will keep increasing.

— D. Anderson

Raewyn is so helpful and the communication is fantastic! The kids love the work they do and it is definitely helping them.
