Learning outside of the classroom

Classrooms are not the only place a child can learn. Learning happens beyond the classroom, and one of the easiest ways to help advance your child is by incorporating learning experiences into everyday life. Activities outside of the classroom are often authentic, hands-on, and interactive, which are all invaluable skills that prepare students for life beyond school. Practical learning opportunities such as family activities or learning how to ride a bike can strengthen your child’s learning agility. Read on to discover how you can help your child learn outside of the classroom.

1. Visit your local library

An easy way to encourage your child to continue to learn outside of the classroom is by reading. Books are full of information and knowledge we absorb consciously and subconsciously. Take your child to your local library and allow them to roam around and pick out a variety of books about a range of topics, whether it’s picture books or educational guides. This will benefit your child in the long run by expanding their view of the world and obtaining a broader range of knowledge. Your child may surprise you with a newfound passion for reading.

2. Learn how to ride a bike

Learning how to ride a bike is a simple and fun way to learn outside of the classroom. Bike riding is a valuable life skill that improves children’s physical fitness and benefits their learning development. Riding a bike teaches children to stay determined and persistent, and gives them a concrete learning journey to relate back to when they need a form of encouragement to keep going, or when working towards a difficult goal. Learning how to ride a bike gives children a sense of accomplishment and increased confidence that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Dedicate some time on the weekends to take your children to the park and teach them the basics of riding a bike whilst providing them with support and encouragement.

3. Take a family trip

When you travel or plan family activities with your children, it enables them to learn more about the world around them. Whether it’s a day trip or a long weekend holiday, an effective way to help your children learn is by exposing them to artistic, social, or cultural activities. A family trip to the zoo is an enjoyable way to teach your children about nature, the environment, and their surroundings. Zoos offer many learning opportunities for both children and adults. Depending on where you take your children, family activities can spark curiosity and conversation, which uncovers new knowledge and interest in the world.

4. After school activities

After school activities are a great way to instil useful skills in children. After school activities or hobbies are the perfect opportunity for your children to try something new, or develop a new skill set. Sit your children down and figure out what interests they may have, whether it’s trying out a new instrument, learning to dance, learning a new language, or if they need extra support with their learning, after school tutoring can help. After school activities are an effective way for your children to learn outside of the classroom by offering learning opportunities, exposure to new hobbies, and taking them out of their comfort zone.

Taking learning outside the classroom can help enrich your children’s educational experience, by providing them with real-world learning experiences. This gives them invaluable life skills that set them up for success in life beyond school. After school tutoring is an effective way for your child to learn outside the classroom.
